I have been writing about the nature of diagnosis recently and about how I have shifted my perspective around diagnosis, specifically in the area of neurodivergence. I have a mixed view and consider diagnosis to be imprecise, imperfect and also to be helpful. You can read more about this here and here. I came to this from a position of vulnerability. I had noticed there were/are a number of areas I struggle in (they are either very energetically costly to me or I feel like I am failing) and the more I learnt about these areas the more they seemed connected to neurodivergence. So I figured out that if my struggles were connected to neurodivergence I could learn from others who were managing and thriving with these issues. I am in this learning process and also devising strategies for myself, particularly when I am with my kids, so that I can manage better. I talked about this here.
